Delivery --> General

Childbirth usually occurs between 3 weeks before and 2 weeks after the due date of birth. If your child is born before or after this period you will deliver in a hospital with the assistance of a gynaecologist.
If the pregnancy is without complications, your child may be born at home or in a polyclinic with our assistance. In the course of the pregnancy or even during delivery you can decide where you want to have your baby.
If your pregnancy is without complications, home is a good and safe place to deliver. Research has shown that a home delivery is as safe as a delivery in a hospital. Actually, it is even safer when it is a second or subsequent delivery. If there are any complications during the delivery we will refer you to a gynaecologist.
You should have your baby in a place and manner that feels best to you. We will always respect your choice as long as it is medically justifiable.

When the contractions have started it is important to relax as much as possible. So try to find an optimal position in which you can compensate for the contractions, for example walking, lying, or in the bath. We always bring a birthing chair in case you wish to give birth vertically. We check the course of the delivery by an external and internal examination. We also monitor the condition of the baby by listening to the heart sound. We will give you continuous hands-on support and advice during delivery. Try to let us know at all times what your wishes are so that we can assist you in the best way possible.
When the baby has been born we put him/her on your stomach, unless you prefer something else.

You determine who may be present at the delivery besides the midwife and the maternity assistant. If you have older children who would like to be present at childbirth, see to it that there is someone to look after them in case they change their mind.
