Delivery --> Confinement

During the confinement, the first 8 days after childbirth, we will visit you regularly to check that you and your baby are in good health. We will also guide and advise you about breastfeeding your baby.
If you give birth in a hospital, even if the obstetrician has assisted at the delivery, we will check up on you when you are at home again. If there are any problems during the confinement period you can reach us via our mobile phone.

A maternity nurse is indispensable if you have your baby and/or your confinement at home. During the first week after the birth she will come daily to look after en check up on you and your baby. There are various maternity agencies.  You should contact one of these before you are 20 weeks into your pregnancy. The maternity agency will tailor the care to your personal situation. In practice this will work out to about 5 hours a day, for a period of 8 days.

During your confinement you will still be in the care of the midwife. After 8 days of maternity care our task is over. Your general practitioner will take over the care for you and your child in case of illness. The health centre will take over the general care concerning nursing, feeding, weight and vaccinations of your baby. About 6 weeks after childbirth we will check that you have completely recovered.
This last check up will take place at our practice.
