Regulations of the Complaints Committee of the Netherlands Organisation of Midwifes.

If you have complaints about the assistance of, or the treatment by your midwife, it is advisable first of all to talk it over with the midwife her/himself.

In the unlikely event that a discussion is not possible or if a discussion does not solve the problem there is a possibility to put your claim to a Complaint Committee of the 'Koninklijke Nederlandse Organisatie van Verloskundigen.

The KNOV Complaint Committee

  • has a pledge of secrecy;
  • will handle your complaint independently;
  • works along the principle of listening to both sides of the argument;
  • does not make a judgment on financial matters;
  • does not handle complaints that are being (or will be) handled by another agency or authority.

After the pronouncement of the Complaint Committee you can still turn to a legal authority, for example the Medical Disciplinary Tribunal.
